Day 93- EU – Italy [Rapallo to Moneglia]
07th March 2020
More uphills today! Undulating on the Ligurian coast of Italy, up and down the mountains towards the pristine town of Moneglia
As I ran the last 4km of today on a steep downhill towards Moneglia, I looked around. I pondered for a while but there was no alternative: I had to run all the way down to Moneglia (ie: 300m of elevation loss) to reach my accomodation for the night. Meaning that tomorrow morning there will be only one way back to the national road: 300m+ uphill over 4km… !
The day had been very varied. I left Rapallo on sea level, went up and down a hill, found Chiavari on the seaside, and went up another mammoth hill for over 6km. Only to find out the steep downhill to Moneglia! It is quite a blessing that these few days are shorter distances, I can take it really easy whilst still enjoying a good rest in the afternoon.
Tomorrow will be the last of the “short running days” – but promising to be rich in more and more uphills. This will be my last run in the Liguria region before entering Tuscany.
